Coaching Staff

At Lucky Lax, we believe that behind every successful team is a dedicated and skilled coaching staff. We take immense pride in introducing our exceptional group of coaches who bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to the game of girls lacrosse. Our coaches are current and former collegiate lacrosse players, or coaches. With their guidance, mentorship, and expertise, we aim to provide an environment where young athletes can thrive, develop their skills, and reach their full potential.

TEAM COACHES

 

Amanda Shimp – 2025 Head Coach

Amanda Shimp is an Endwell, New York native, and a 2009 graduate from The Ohio State University. At Ohio State, Shimp earned her BA degree in Middle Childhood Education, with minors in Education and African & African American Studies. Athletically, she was a three-year starter of the Women’s Lacrosse team. Shimp earned American Lacrosse Conference All-Conference honors in 2007 and All-Tournament honors in 2007 and 2008 as a midfielder. After graduation, Shimp went on to earn her Masters in Sports Administration from the University of Louisville. In 2011, Shimp joined the Winthrop University Coaching Staff as an Assistant Coach. At Winthrop, she led the team to multiple Big South Tournament titles, and NCAA tournament appearances within the first 3 years of competition. In 2016, Shimp was hired as the Assistant Coach at Virginia Tech. In 2017, she helped them to engineer the most successful season in 18 years, followed by a NCAA bid in 2018. In 2020, she was promoted to Associate Head Coach for Virginia Tech. Most recently, Shimp has returned to Columbus and is working as a Fiscal Associate at The Ohio State University Athletic Department, where she is responsible for assistance related to fiscal transactions within the department. She is looking forward to continuing her passion in coaching with our 2025 Team. She brings a wealth of knowledge in various capacities as a successful player, recruiter, and college coach.

 

Hannah Hale – 2025 Assistant Coach

Hannah Hale, a graduate of Worthington Kilbourne in 2020, boasts an impressive lacrosse career marked by four years as a varsity starter and the honor of senior captain in her final year. Transitioning seamlessly to Florida Southern, she has left an enduring mark both on the field and in academia, earning a coveted spot on the Dean’s List. Hannah’s passion for lacrosse extends beyond her own achievements; she actively imparts her expertise and passion to the youth of Columbus, nurturing the next generation of lacrosse enthusiasts with her boundless love for the game and commitment to excellence.

Allie Level – 2026 Head Coach

Allie Level is a highly accomplished lacrosse coach with a deep-rooted love for the game. Born and raised in California, Allie discovered her passion for lacrosse at a young age and excelled as a player throughout her high school years at Navato High School. Her exceptional skills on the field led her to achieve impressive rankings, consistently ranking within the Top 10 lacrosse players in the United States. After high school, Allie worked with various clubs in California, where she had the opportunity to mentor and develop numerous talented players. Her coaching style emphasized skill development, strategic play, and a deep understanding of the game. Allie attended UC Berkeley for her undergraduate studies, before attending The Ohio State University for her Masters. During her time at Ohio State, Allie became a household name in Columbus for her commitment to developing high-level players. Allie’s coaching experience in Central Ohio has been nothing short of remarkable. She has conducted intensive training sessions and provided valuable lessons to over 150 players. Her dedication, enthusiasm, and unwavering passion for the sport have inspired countless athletes to reach new heights in their lacrosse journeys. Allie is in the final season with the 2024 team, where she continues to push her players to achieve their full potential. Looking ahead, she eagerly anticipates the opportunity to coach the talented 2026 team, ensuring a legacy of strong, skilled, and dedicated athletes.

Brittney Fauss-Johnson – 2026 Assistant Coach

Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Brittney grew up in the hotbed of lacrosse. She attended Century High School where she showcased her exceptional lacrosse skills as a varsity player for years garnering two State Titles. In 2006, Brittney’s talent and dedication led her to commit to The Ohio State University, where she excelled as an attack player for the Buckeyes. During her time at OSU, Brittney’s outstanding performance earned her the recognition of being a two-time Regional All-American. Her impact on the team was further solidified by setting two impressive school records, namely, Most Goals in a Half and Most Points in a Half. These remarkable achievements highlight Brittney’s exceptional skills and her ability to contribute significantly to her team’s success. Since 2011, Brittney has been an integral part of the Lucky Lax organization, having led the 2014, 2017, 2022 and 2024 Teams. Brittney’s passion for the game is unparalleled, and she finds great joy in witnessing the growth and development of players, both on and off the field. Her commitment to their overall development as athletes and individuals is evident in her coaching approach, making her a valuable asset to the Lucky Lax community. With her deep-rooted connection to her hometown, stellar collegiate career, and impactful coaching journey, Brittney’s journey in lacrosse is a testament to her unwavering dedication, exceptional skills, and sincere love for the sport.

Margaret Wolford – 2027 Head Coach

Margaret is a Columbus, OH native where she attended Worthington Kilbourne High School. Margaret furthered her career, playing Division 1 Lacrosse at Fresno State University, being named the Offensive MVP in 2010. She began her coaching career at Otterbein University, and at Smith College in Massachusetts. She then went on to be the Head Coach at Wittenberg University where under her guidance, 5 Tigers have claimed All-NCAC honors. Margaret is now at Georgetown College in Kentucky, and has just wrapped up coaching the Lucky Lax 2023 Team, where she led them to have 10 commits and counting! Aside from being an excellent coach, Margaret is also our Recruiting Coordinator, assisting our players through their individual recruiting journeys! We are so LUCKY to have Margaret as part of our team!

Jackie Wolford – 2027 Assistant Coach

Jackie Wolford, a Columbus, Ohio native and proud graduate of Worthington Kilbourne, boasts an impressive athletic career. Throughout her time at Kilbourne, she demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication, earning numerous accolades, including Two-Time First Team All Conference, Two-Time First Team All Region, and First Team All State player, while leaving a lasting mark on the record books, setting new standards for career assists and points in a season! In her senior year, Jackie held the distinguished position of three-sport captain, displaying exemplary leadership qualities. Particularly in lacrosse, she served as captain for two consecutive years, working closely with her late father, Bill Wolford, and esteemed Head Coach Doug Troutner. The unique experience of playing under her father’s guidance further enhanced her passion for the sport. Jackie’s talent and commitment have not gone unnoticed beyond high school. She has maintained her exceptional performance as a student-athlete at Kent State University, where she is heading into her Senior Year. In recognition of her outstanding freshman season, she was named the 2020-2021 MAC Freshman of the Year, solidifying her status as a rising star in the collegiate lacrosse scene. Most recently, Jackie received the 2022-2023 Player of the Year Award for the MAC Conference!

Riley Kuehn – 2027 Assistant Coach

Riley Kuehn is an accomplished lacrosse coach hailing from Upper Arlington, known for her remarkable success in the sport. Born and raised in this lacrosse-loving community, Riley’s passion for the game ignited at an early age. During her tenure there, she garnered two State Titles ahead of the COVID Season. Continuing her lacrosse journey, Riley pursued her education at Dickinson College, where she is currently a Senior Attacker for the Red Devils. Passionate about passing on her knowledge and love for lacrosse, Riley has coached with Lucky Lax for the last two years in various offerings including as an assistant coach for the 2027 Team. Her coaching style is marked by a strong emphasis on proper technique, strategic thinking, and fostering a positive team environment. Riley’s extensive knowledge of the game, combined with her innate ability to connect with her players, sets her apart as a coach. She understands that each athlete is unique, and she tailors her approach to suit individual strengths and areas of improvement. Riley’s dedication to her players’ growth goes beyond the field, as she instills important life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.

Jamie Level – 2028 Head Coach

Jamie Level is a dedicated lacrosse enthusiast hailing from California. With a deep-rooted passion for the sport, Jamie’s collegiate journey in lacrosse began during her time at Oregon before her decision to transfer to Ohio State University to further her lacrosse career. During her time at Ohio State, Jamie not only excelled on the field but also pursued her academic aspirations. She successfully completed her undergraduate studies and continued her educational journey by earning a Masters degree, graduating in 2023. Her commitment and drive both in academics and athletics have been integral to her personal growth and development as a well-rounded individual. Jamie’s coaching experience extends beyond her collegiate years. Prior to her move to Ohio, she had the privilege of coaching alongside her sister, Allie Level, in a club coaching capacity in California, in addition to providing individual and small group training in Columbus. This experience allowed her to mentor and nurture young athletes, helping them harness their skills and fostering a love for the game. Jamie firmly believes in the transformative power of lacrosse, as it has provided her with invaluable opportunities and experiences. She is determined to extend those same opportunities to the next generation of talented athletes.

Carmen Reis – 2028 Assistant Coach

Carmen Reis, a native of Worthington, OH, is an accomplished athlete. Currently a Junior at The Ohio State University, Carmen is actively involved in various pursuits while pursuing her studies in Accounting with a minor in Business Analytics. One notable role she holds is as the President of the Women’s Club Lacrosse Team at Ohio State, where she leads and inspires her teammates. Prior to her time at Ohio State, Carmen showcased her skills as a dedicated player on the Lucky Lax 2021 Team. As a testament to her commitment and talent, Carmen was also a two-time captain in both Lacrosse and Field Hockey during her high school years at Thomas Worthington. She graduated from Thomas Worthington High School in the class of 2021, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in both sports. Looking ahead, Carmen is eager to contribute to the growth and development of the 2028 team. With her passion, leadership abilities, and strong work ethic, Carmen is poised to make a significant impact on the team’s success. Overall, Carmen is a driven individual who excels both on and off the field. Her dedication to her studies, leadership roles, and athletic accomplishments make her an exceptional representative of her community and a promising talent for the future.

 

Liza Hernandez – 2029 Head Coach

Liza, a native of Columbus, Ohio, began her academic journey at New Albany High School. Following her time as an Eagle, she went onto to pursue her academics and athletics at The Ohio State University. In 2020, she proudly earned a BA degree in Business Administration, and the following year, in 2021, she successfully obtained her MS degree in Sports Management. During her time at Ohio State, Liza showcased her exceptional leadership skills as a two-time captain. Her talent and dedication were recognized when she received the prestigious IWLCA First Team All-Midwest Region and First Team All-Big Ten honors in 2021, a testament to her outstanding abilities on the field. Since graduating, Liza has embraced her passion for coaching by lending her expertise back to her hometown with the New Albany JV team as well as various youth teams in the community. Her commitment to nurturing young talent and sharing her knowledge is a true testament to her leadership!

Ashley Turner – 2029 Assistant Coach

Ashley Turner is a driven and accomplished individual who has made significant contributions both academically and athletically at The Ohio State University. In the spring of 2023, she successfully earned her bachelor’s degree in the sport industry, while also finishing her playing career on the Women’s Lacrosse Team. Ashley’s talent and commitment to athletics have been evident throughout her collegiate career. As a member of the Ohio State athletics program, she was selected to be part of the inaugural cohort of the NextGen program. This program offers a unique opportunity to individuals with promising potential in the sports industry, and Ashley’s selection is a testament to her skills and potential. She is set to begin her position in the summer of 2023, where she will undoubtedly make a significant impact. Ashley’s achievements extend beyond her academic and professional pursuits. She has received multiple honors for her athletic accomplishments, including being a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, an Academic All-Big Ten honoree, and an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete. These accolades highlight her ability to balance her rigorous academic schedule with her dedication to her sport. Ashley Turner is a talented individual who has excelled both on and off the field. With her strong academic background, her dedication to athletics, and her exceptional performance, she is poised to achieve even greater success in empowering our youth.

Paige Haughn – 2029 Assistant Coach

Paige Haughn, a proud native of Powell, Ohio, is a remarkable individual with a deep-rooted passion for lacrosse. As an alumna of the esteemed Lucky Lax program, Paige embodies what club lacrosse is all about. Paige’s lacrosse journey began in first grade, igniting her passion. She honed her skills and leadership qualities throughout her high school years at Olentangy Liberty High School, where she proudly served as the senior captain and earned the distinguished title of being selected for the 2nd team OCC. Recognizing her exceptional talent and dedication, Queens University of Charlotte recruited Paige to join their lacrosse team. Following the 2020 COVID Year, her aspirations led her to the University of Kentucky, where she currently pursues her academic aspirations in Marketing and Finance. Paige’s involvement in the Lucky Lax community extends beyond her playing days. She graciously contributed her expertise as a coach for our Local Lucks team from 2020 to 2022, nurturing the skills and passion of aspiring lacrosse players. She has most recently coached the 2029/2030 Team, sharing her profound love for the game and impart her extensive knowledge to the next generation of lacrosse enthusiasts!

Catherine Shelley – 2030/2031 Head Coach

Catherine Shelley is a dedicated lacrosse enthusiast hailing from Dublin, Ohio. With a passion for the sport that dates back to her college days, she has made significant contributions to the lacrosse community both as a player and a coach. Catherine’s lacrosse journey began during her time at Ohio University. As a player, she displayed exceptional talent and a deep understanding of the game. In 2003, Catherine took her love for lacrosse to the next level by founding Lucky Lax. She aimed to share her knowledge and passion for the sport with young athletes, nurturing their talent and guiding them towards success. Her dedication and expertise quickly made Lucky Lax a trusted name in the lacrosse community. Currently, Catherine is the Head Coach at Grizzell Middle School, where she continues to make a lasting impact on the local lacrosse scene. In her first year as head coach, she led the team to impressive achievements, securing a championship title and a runner-up position. Her leadership skills and ability to inspire her players have undoubtedly played a significant role in the team’s success. Outside of lacrosse, Catherine is a devoted mother to four children. Despite her busy schedule, she actively engages in various youth academic and athletic initiatives. Recognizing the importance of a well-rounded education and extracurricular involvement, she strives to support and encourage young students in their endeavors. Her passion for the sport, coupled with her dedication to nurturing young talent, continues to inspire and shape the future of lacrosse in Dublin, Ohio, and beyond.

Torie Sullivan – 2030/2031 Assistant Coach

Torie Sullivan, a native of Columbus, OH, boasts an impressive athletic and academic journey. She honed her skills at Bishop Watterson High School, showcasing her talent as a standout player. Torie graduated in 2017 with notable achievements, including Second Team All-State (2016) and First Team All-State (2017) honors. Building on her success, Torie pursued her academic and playing career at Mercyhurst University, where she made significant contributions on the field as a midfielder and defender. Recognizing her leadership qualities, she was elected Captain during her Senior Year, a testament to her dedication and commitment. Continuing her pursuit of excellence, Torie embarked on a new chapter as a first-year student in The Ohio State University’s esteemed Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. With a passion for helping others and a drive for success, Torie eagerly anticipates the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. With her sights set on the future, Torie remains determined to make her mark in the upcoming 2030/2031s, driven by her unwavering determination and the desire to continue her trajectory of accomplishment.

Molly Kershner – 2030/2031 Assistant Coach

Molly Kersher is an Upper Arlington native, where she played an integral role in securing two state titles for her team, before committing to play lacrosse at the College of Wooster! At Wooster, Molly is pursuing a double major in Education and History. Her academic pursuits reflect her commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of young individuals. Eager to share her knowledge and inspire others, she looks forward to being a certified teacher of 7th to 12th graders starting next fall. At Wooster, Molly not only excels academically but also continues to showcase her lacrosse skills. Her exceptional performance and dedication have earned her recognition as a Top 25 Scholar Athlete for three consecutive years: 2021, 2022, and 2023. This acknowledgment highlights her exceptional abilities both on and off the field. Molly’s lacrosse journey has taken her beyond the borders of the United States. She had the opportunity to represent the Copenhagen Women’s team in a Swedish national tournament, further expanding her horizons and gaining valuable international experience. In addition to her impressive playing career, Molly has also delved into coaching. She spent two seasons coaching the Local Lucks, where she found great joy and fulfillment in working with the players. Molly eagerly looks forward to continuing her coaching journey with the 2030 Team!

 

POSITIONAL COACHES

Emily Kraker – Club Goalie Coach

A 2017 graduate from St. Francis DeSales, and Lucky Lax alumnus, Emily Kraker is a standout goalie and coach. In High School, Emily received honors as a First Team All-Ohio, First Team All-Region, First Team All CCL and CIL. Emily also contributed to her team being 2016 Division II State Champions. Emily is a 2017 Lucky Lax alumnus, and is currently continuing her playing career at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana.

Annika Duncan – Club Goalie Coach

Annika is a New Albany, Ohio native who graduated from New Albany High School. While there, Annika led her team to a State Title in 2022! She garnered First Team All-Occ Ohio Division, First Team All-State and First Team All-Region honors in addition to being the Goalie of the Year in her Senior Year. Annika is 2022 Lucky Alum, and she is currently continuing her playing career at Notre Dame College in Ohio!

 

Gillian O’Rourke – Club Goalie Coach

Gillian is a Columbus, Ohio native who graduated from Olentangy Liberty High School, where she lettered three years and was named captain in her senior year. In 2019, Gillian earned second team All-OCC Capital Division honors and all-region honorable mention accolades, and as a junior she was named to the Under Armor Midwest All-American Team. Gillian is 2020 Lucky Alum, and she is currently continuing her playing career at Slippery Rock University in PA. As a Sophomore, Gillian was a Captain, and is currently 3rd in Program History for Save Percentage and Wins and 4th in Program History in GAA and Saves!
